#Review: Sneaker Paati by Anita Nair

Sneaker Paati
Author: Anita Nair
Publisher: Penguisters

Anita Nair’s Sneaker Paati is a lively, heartwarming tale that proves grandmothers don’t have to bake cookies — sometimes, they wear sneakers and do headstands. The story follows eight-year-old Kittu, whose routine life turns upside down when his super-cool aunt, Shobha Attai (better known as Sneaker Paati), comes to visit. With her fearless spirit and offbeat wisdom, she helps Kittu and his best friend Bunty navigate bullies, friendship, and the joy of being brave and kind.

The writing is crisp, funny, and full of sparkle — Anita Nair doesn’t just write for children, she writes with them. Her sentences bounce with energy, and Sneaker Paati herself is pure delight — part philosopher, part troublemaker.

If there’s a flaw, it’s that the story occasionally lingers a bit too long in quieter moments. But the warmth, humour, and emotional intelligence more than make up for it.

A perfect pick for readers aged 7–11 — and honestly, for any adult who still believes growing up doesn’t mean giving up wonder.
