Summer Holidays
Author: Koral Dasgupta

Rating: 4/5

With the shift towards aloofness and privacy, the concept of elementary families has been accepted readily worldwide. Bridging the gaps in no longer a concern. What is more important is ensuring that each member of the family has his own space and the much-needed solitude. Based on a similar concept, the scaffold for ‘Summer Holidays’ has been set. It’s a simple story garnished with doses of laughter and lessons.

Two cousins- Mira and Rishi- bear the brunt of their parents’ actions when they are forced to move to different cities as an aftermath of an argument. Inseparable when young, these two take some time to come to grips with the situation. Years later, social media brings them face-to-face (virtually) and a walk down the memory lane is all it takes for them to take the rough with the smooth. But they do not give up completely. This story is about their effort to bring back their families together.

‘Summer Holidays’ alludes at the contemporary issues in broad strokes. Confrontation with cynical parents becomes the rising action of the plot. The brisk and compelling narrative further aids the storytelling. Though there are plenty of characters in the story, each has a pivotal role to play. Different circumstances call for their existence that is what helps them make their presence felt.

Overall, ‘Summer Holidays’ is a story of hope, pleasure and pain- all at the same time. The story will encourage the readers to reflect upon their familial relationships and treasure every moment spent in a memory box!

Best wishes to the author!
