The Targaryen dynasty is a fictional family from George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. Originating from the ancient civilization of Valyria, the Targaryens were dragonlords who survived the cataclysmic Doom of Valyria and settled on the island of Dragonstone.

Around 300 years before the events of the series, Aegon Targaryen and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, launched a conquest of Westeros. Riding their dragons, they brought six independent kingdoms under their rule, establishing the Seven Kingdoms.
