Perfect Parenting
Author: Sushant Kalra

Rating: 4/5

Parenting is more challenging when one embarks on this journey. For the ones who are just armchair critics, parenting might seem exciting and fun but seldom do parents share the nitty-gritty of the complex web of judgements, peer pressure and parenting problems so openly. Hence, it becomes all the more overwhelming for the new parents to choose the ‘right way’ of parenting and execute the role in the ‘perfect way’.

Perfect Parenting is more like an oxymoron, for there is no sure shot or foolproof way of parenting. Every child is different and so is every set of parents. A lot of methods of parenting are governed by personal conveniences, preferences, beliefs and notions. Hence, it’s okay not to follow the usual route. This is what ‘Perfect Parenting’ teaches you. In this book, Sushant Kalra breaks the myth that parenting is an art that can be learnt from experiences. Yes, some experiences do come in handy but the style of parenting definitely changes for every parent. According to the author, the key is to be open-minded and be ready to ‘unlearn’ the techniques to accommodate the new methods. Knowing that the stressors are more for the current generation as compared to the trouble we faced during our childhood, it should not come as a surprise that the issues that these children face directly impact their mental and emotional well-being. Consequently, parents need to address even the smallest issues like communication, issue related to self-image, exposure to sexuality or addiction to screen at quite an early stage.

The author emphasizes understanding the changing paradigm and evolving with the children so that they are guided in the right direction. It is imperative to understand that parents are not in a race to prove if they are the best but they definitely are accountable for their child’s personality development.

Overall, Perfect Parenting is very practical and comes with a lot of tools that can help the parents learn new ways to bond with their children.

Best wishes to the author!
